ABSTRACT. Viral diseases pose a substantial threat to pond fish cultivation. Carp deaths caused by herpesviruses have increased in recent years. A new virus described as CyHV-3 is highly pathogenic in carp and koi carp, and is responsible for substantial losses in pond fisheries. Currently, studies are being conducted on limiting losses due to herpesviruses through the administration of preparations to stimulate anti-viral responses, the introduction of attenuated immunization to stimulate resistance, the effective use of disinfectants, and performing genetic selection of the carp line with the best resistance to the herpesvirus.
